Engineering Change, Empowering Communities - InNova Consulting, Inc.
InNova Consulting is redefining what it means to build community through engineering. Founded in 2023, the firm was created on a foundation of passion, expertise, and deep generational ties to the profession. As the only woman-owned, minority disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) engineering firm in Lincolnwood, InNova is making its mark as both an innovator and a local leader.
The company was co-founded by Samina Saleem and Julian Gnatenco, longtime friends and colleagues who share a commitment to technical excellence and meaningful community engagement. After working together for more than 15 years, they launched InNova with a vision to deliver high-quality civil, structural, planning, and transportation solutions that strengthen neighborhoods and improve everyday life.
Building with Purpose
At the heart of InNova’s philosophy is a belief that engineering should serve people as much as it serves projects. The firm’s designs aim to meet today’s needs while shaping more sustainable, connected communities for the future. “Our goal has always been to create solutions that reflect the values of the people we serve,” said Saleem. “We want to make an impact that goes beyond concrete and steel.”
That commitment has driven remarkable growth. In just one year, InNova has expanded by more than 1,000 percent, taking on major projects such as the Gross Point Road Resurfacing in Morton Grove and multiple prime task orders from the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Professional Transportation Bulletin. Each success reflects the team’s expertise, adaptability, and strong relationships within the industry.
Leadership Rooted in Resilience
For Saleem, leadership and perseverance go hand in hand. She often shares advice inspired by Lily Tomlin’s quote, “The road to success is always under construction.” To her, building a business requires patience, courage, and a willingness to learn through challenges. “You have to stay resilient and be willing to pivot,” she said. “Every challenge is an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.”
Investing in the Next Generation
InNova’s impact extends beyond its projects. The firm proudly partners with Maine East High School to provide students with hands-on learning experiences in engineering. These programs give students early exposure to the field and inspire future careers in STEM. InNova also supports local initiatives like Foodie Fest, a signature event organized through the Lincolnwood Chamber of Commerce, as part of its ongoing commitment to community engagement.
Local Roots, Lasting Impact
Choosing Lincolnwood as InNova’s home was a natural decision for its founders. Both Saleem and Gnatenco have strong ties to the area and wanted their company to reflect the values of the community they know best. “Lincolnwood represents connection and opportunity,” said Saleem. “It’s where we can grow while staying grounded in the relationships that matter most.”
InNova’s story is one of innovation, collaboration, and purpose. By combining technical excellence with a genuine commitment to community, the firm is not only transforming infrastructure but also paving the way for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
